Getting your Kia road‑ready in Ontario comes down to a few essentials: a valid licence, insurance, registration, and plates. Scarboro Kia helps where we can and clarifies what is expected of you as the owner.
Licence and Insurance Basics
You need a valid driver’s licence that meets Ontario’s requirements for the vehicle you’re buying. If you are new to driving or new to the province, we’ll point you toward the right licensing resources.
You also need to have auto insurance in place before you can drive your Kia out of our lot. Ontario law requires every driver to carry a valid policy issued by a licensed insurer. We don’t sell insurance ourselves, but we can flag the key points worth raising with your insurer. That includes liability coverage, optional add‑ons, and instructions for showing proof of insurance on delivery day.
Some insurers offer lower premiums for vehicles equipped with driver‑assist safety features, which come standard on many current Kia models. It’s worth asking your insurer directly whether your chosen model qualifies for any such discount.
Registration, Plates, and Paperwork
Buying a vehicle means completing paperwork to establish ownership, register the Kia, and get your plates sorted.
At the time of sale, we’ll cover:
- What ownership documents you will need to bring in.
- Whether you can transfer existing plates or need new ones.
- How taxes and registration fees are calculated and collected.
We handle the dealership side of this process and guide you through the rest, keeping things as simple as possible. As a registered OMVIC dealer, we follow Ontario’s rules for how vehicle sales are documented and disclosed.
Picking Up Your Kia
Scarboro Kia is located at 2592 Eglinton Ave E, Scarborough, ON M1K 2R5. When you come in to finalize paperwork and collect your vehicle, we will confirm everything is in order.
We will check that you have the right documents and walk you through any final signatures. Then we’ll give you a quick rundown of your Kia’s features before you drive off. That includes any driver‑assist technology and infotainment features on board.
